SILENCE WITHIN

There begins the noise,

Loud and clear;

In the darkness,

The scampering and rattling:

From the bedroom to the kitchen.

The raid lasts,

I lie, unable to move.

Years ago,

We were a good match.

Now, with limbs unresponding

I lie

Waiting for the dawn.

Out he goes, through the windows,

She comes through the door.

She rants and yells,

As she cleans.

Though, she knows it’s not me.

After she leaves,

Begins

The noise outside

Silence within.
